Young talents sign on again

NAIRN County are delighted to have tied up the futures of three of the clubs most promising young players.

Fraser Wilkie, Joe Cuthbert and Seamus McConaghy have all signed contract extensions to continue their development at Station Park.

The trio of 18-year-olds have been taking part in pre-season training with the first team squad this summer and all three have them have now made their top team debuts.

Manager Ronnie Sharp said: “These three players have done well at pre-season training and have earned their new deals. We want them to continue to learn from training with the first team squad and take that experience back with them when they play in the under-20s and look to push on individually to break into the first team.

“It was great for Joe to make his debut for us against Ross County on Saturday. He has been in and around the first team squad for about half-a-season although we were not able to get him on the pitch at all last season, so it is great for him to now make his debut and it was well-deserved.

“Fraser is unfortunately out injured just now having dislocated his shoulder in training last week. Once he returns to full fitness, I am sure he will get back to pushing Dylan Maclean and James Kendall as hard as he can.

“Seamus came into the squad towards the end of last season and made a couple of substitute appearances for us out wide and in attack having done well for the under-20s.”

Sharp added: “It is great for the club that we have managed to tie these young players down. It is important for us that they are committed to continuing their development with us and we want them all to kick-on again over the next season.

“It shows the rest of the young players at the club that the opportunities are there and it is down to them all to earn the right to be a part of the squad at whichever level they play at, be it with the first team, the under-20s or in the youths with the under-17s, 15s or 13s.”

Wilkie debuted for the first team keeping a clean sheet in the 5-0 win over Fort William on March 11th 2017 and played nine times with the under-20s team last season.

Cuthbert made 15 appearances in the under-20s last term, scoring once and has now made his first team debut playing the last 12 minutes of Gregg Main’s Testimonial Match against Ross County on Saturday.

McConaghy came off the bench in the home match against Formartine United on March 17th and the away fixture at Deveronvale on April 21st both last season. He turned out 15 times for the under-20s and finished joint top scorer with nine goals.
